Mesh pool fence posts are supported by 1" diameter posts inserted only 3" into the patio. They extend 3.5', 4' or 5' (1.07m to 1.57m) up out of the post hole. Consider the stress placed upon the base of the pool fence post when a child, pet, or adult leans against the pool fence. All the stress is concentrated at the base of the post called the fulcrum point. When using aluminum posts, bending and breakage can be a problem as a result of the leverage on those posts. This is one reason Protect-A-Child's composite fiberglass pool fence support posts are so amazing. They can't break or become bent. For those who just prefer to use aluminum support posts it is critical that this post be reinforced where the stress is greatest. Only Protect-A-Child's aluminum post mesh pool fences incorporate double wall aluminum tubes solidly reinforced at this critical fulcrum point. This makes them far stronger than competing pool fence posts.
Become educated about aluminum post mesh pool fences:
First Some Background:
Protect-A-Child has offered aluminum support posts in our mesh pool fence line for 26 years. We have installed and serviced tens of thousands of aluminum post mesh pool fences and our experience with them goes back to the original mesh pool fences built in 1963. That field experience has led us to conclude what minimum strength requirements for mesh pool fence posts must be and provides the basis for how Protect-A-Child Pool Fence Company builds fences today.
In the mesh pool fence industry we see several varieties of aluminum support posts – most commonly with an X or Y extrusion built into the post. Protect-A-Child has seen them all in action in our quarter century of experience. Such extrusions offer little strength at the base of the pool fence post where screw holes have been drilled to attach the mesh and weakened the metal. This bottom screw hole weakens the X and Y aluminum tube at the critical fulcrum point where 4' or 5' of leverage is concentrated and focused when a child bumps into the fence. When stress is applied to the post from children bumping in to it during play, such posts will first bend and then snap off cleanly at ground level allowing your child access to the pool.
We have replaced too many weak aluminum posts such that we won't produce a pool fence with weak aluminum posts. This is why all Protect-A-Child aluminum post pool fences incorporate double wall reinforcement at the critical “fulcrum” stress point where posts break.
