Florida's New Residential Pool Safety Law Information
Florida's new residential swimming pool safety act requires that
every new swimming pool built after January 1, 2001 be equipped
with a safety device to prevent children from gaining access to
the pool:
Protect-A-Child Pool Fencing In It's 4' and 5' Heights Meets or
Exceeds The New Florida Building Code Requirement for Pool Fencing!
*Please
note, to comply with the Florida Building Code, the fence must
meet a strict definition outlining component strength and assembly
criteria designed to assure a quality product. All 4' and 5' Protect-A-Child
Pool Fences have been certified to meet or exceed this standard.
For your installation, your local Protect-A-Child distributor
can advise you on applicable requirements for your specific area.
The basics are:
- The fence must be a minimum of 4' high.
- A mesh pool fence is not required to have a self-closing,
self-latching gate. If one is installed, it must meet strict gate
specifications including self closing and self latching mechanisms
and the latch must be positioned no lower than 54" high.
- The fence can be positioned no closer than 20" from
the waters edge.
- One end of the fence must not be removable without the
aid of tools.
By installing a 4' or 5' tall Protect-A-Child Pool Fence around
your pool you will be in compliance with the new law*. Due to our
patented Lock in Deck feature and Point Lock Secure
Latches, not just one but every section can be locked into the
patio as well as one to another providing the utmost security.
