2010 Cougar 5K Run/WalkMartin Co. FloridaMartin County, Florida -- Community Christian Academy (CCA) of Stuart hosted the 10th Annual Cougar’s 5K Run/Walk. Over 120 runners and walkers participated making it, in the words of John Gonzalez of Sailfish Realty, an “awesome event!” The course stretched up and down Salerno Rd. from Kanner Hwy. to Ault Rd. Jerry Collins of Martin County complemented the course calling it a “nice course… clearly marked out.” When the 7:30 am starting whistle blew, the runners headed east on Salerno, turned around near Ault Rd., ran to Kanner Hwy., and finished back at CCA. The race was won by Jon Williams of Miami with a time of 17.52 minutes. He has run in the Cougar’s 5K Run/Walk in past years, and mentioned he would run in the event again. Williams described the race as a “nice run” because of the overcast, early conditions and as having “good competition.” The race had a broad spectrum of participants from the seasoned, like Mr. Williams, to people who came out to enjoy a walk. Don Coppedge a principle sponsor of the event said “there is always someone in front, and there is always someone behind,” so there is a place for everyone to enjoy the race. Mr. Coppedge brought a team from his company, Protect – A – Child, to participate in the race. He said the race can be used as a team building measure for employees. Asked about his experience as a sponsor of the event, Coppedge said, “it was great,” and he was “glad to help out.” Danny Cabrera of Danny’s Boat Restoration, another sponsor, commented that it was nice to see different people “putting their hearts into supporting their community and Community Christian Academy.” Jon Kolar, CCA’s athletic Director, was happy with the turnout and about the support of the sponsors. He expressed his desire to build on the success of this year’s event; he hopes to reach 200 participants for the 2011 Cougar’s 5K Run/Walk. Article published at www.out2martincounty.com |
